Behind the Scenes at Orfève

Chocolate Rituals: Why Orfève Embraces Simplicity

Chocolate has always been surrounded by rituals.
From pre-Columbian ceremonies to aristocratic European salons, from 19th-century chocolate fountains to today’s grand cru tastings, each era has created its own gestures, codes, and settings.
Even today, some tastings aim to recreate a sense of solemnity: precise slicing, specific temperatures, specialized tools, suggested pairings.
But what if all of that were valid… yet unnecessary?

Flavor, not performance

At Orfève, we honor the richness of these traditions.
But we also believe that great chocolate doesn’t require a rigid ceremony.
It simply needs the right moment, a bit of quiet, a receptive mouth.

That’s why we’ve chosen simplicity:

– thin bars, without decorative motifs,

– minimal, recyclable packaging, free of embellishment,

– and recipes free from additives or unnecessary ingredients.

This apparent simplicity is a deliberate choice: to impose nothing on the cacao and to leave the person tasting it free to create their own ritual.

A chocolate to listen to, observe, and let meltUn chocolat qui s’écoute, se regarde, se fond

Eating a square of Orfève is not a ritual to be learned.

It’s a pause you choose. A way to say stop, to noise, to speed, to excess.

No technique required. Just a bit of slowness. A bit of presence.

And a chocolate honest enough to do the rest.

Orfève’s Approach

At Orfève, we believe simplicity is a form of respect.

Respect for flavor, of course. But also respect for people:

– those who grow,

– those who craft,

– those who taste.

Our bars are designed with that in mind: to give you space. No forced staging. No theatrics.

Just a true encounter, between you and the cacao.
